"Every organization is laser focused on the health of its employees.  Sickness costs everyone, and the only way to hold down the growing cost of health care is to encourage and be  support of employee wellness.

Wellness starts with knowledge and is kept in place by healthy habits.  Each person has the necessity and responsibly to take charge of his or her good health.  Each employer has to be a support partner.  Given that we are all susceptible to detours and backsliding, the learning and the effort has to be part of an ongoing process.

While we tend to think of exercise as key, our knowledge of nutrition and our eating habits are the most significant untouched area of wellness – and the most difficult for people to embrace.  Everyone understands that the drugs our doctor prescribes will help us deal with illness or disease.  People should think of the food they eat at every meal has a similar, maybe more significant impact on our bodies.  Quality foods, particularly whole plant foods, will help prevent common diseases or in some cases reverse it.  Low quality “junk” food may very well trigger or accelerate those diseases.

In short, companies and each worker cannot afford to think of health care in terms of fixing things when they go wrong.  Employers have to encourage and support everyday healthy choices.  The cost of supporting good health is a very small price to pay compared to the alternative."
